Dear Expectant Parent (s)

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. My name is Dana, I am a single mother currently raising my three year old son Chase I adopted from birth. I reside in New York about an hour from New York City. We live in a community that is a safe and friendly environment where children can play, learn, and develop their unique personalities. I believe my stable and loving home would be a wonderful place for another child to grow and thrive.

I am blessed to have wonderful relationships, and support from my parents, siblings, extended family, and a large network of friends. I have a stable, fulfilling career as a Human Resources Executive and work for an organization that makes life-saving medicines for patients. I am blessed to have a flexible job and family who is close by who is very involved in our lives. My mom retired when Chase was born and in addition to his ½ day preschool program she watches him until I come home from work.

On both sides of my family, there have been many adoptions. My mom’s father was adopted, and my mom adopted my cousin (her nephew) after my uncle passed away. On my dad’s side, my aunt also was adopted. When thinking about starting a family, the hope to adopt was in the forefront of my heart.

As a mother I prioritize love, fun, support, education and values in my parenting approach. With the support of my parents, I have created a nurturing home and life for Chase that is filled with laughter and celebration in the good times, and hugs and support during the hard times.

I will continue to show Chase and hopefully a new brother or sister how much they are loved each day. I have waited for this for my entire life, and my focus and energy will be on providing my children with all the best things that life has to offer. I look forward to teaching my children many things, while being open to all the things they will teach me. I say sorry when I am wrong, and also provide structure when they need it. If you trust me with this huge responsibility, I will cherish this gift for all my life as I have cherished Chase.

Who I Am

I am the oldest sister and have three younger brothers. My parents raised me and my siblings with unconditional love and support. I always felt that there was nothing that I could do that would change how they felt about me. Even when I made mistakes during those hard teenage years, I always had guidance, love, and encouragement.

My parents divorced when I was 12 years old, but maintained a good relationship, which allowed me the opportunity to grow-up feeling connected and secure. I have been blessed to have wonderful step-parents who have also loved and cared for me.

Our family is big & silly, and we love to spend time together. We love celebrating birthdays and milestones, going to the movies, or just hanging out. Our family is extremely diverse and is blended from a myriad of backgrounds including African American, Caribbean, Latino, White and LGBTQ.

My grandparents were a huge part of my life growing up and I am extremely close with my Grandma Joan, who is my last living grandparent. When I was little my Nana (great grandma), lived very close and I spent time with her almost every day. She made the best apple pies and macaroni and cheese. It’s been so wonderful to see the relationships Chase has with his grandparents and they can’t wait to have another little grandchild.
While your child will have me as their parent, he/she will also have SO many other people who will love and cherish them.

I waited years to become a mom, my parents, brothers, and friends are just as excited as I am to shower another child with love, snuggles, support, and guidance that they have shown to Chase. When people learn that Chase is adopted they often say how “lucky” he is to have us but we are equally as “lucky” to have him.
My mom is looking forward to holding the baby as much as she can, and making cookies and playing games as the child gets older. My dad is so excited to have another grandchild to make his “world-famous pancakes” for. Uncle Chad enjoys dressing as Santa Claus for Christmas and giving out gifts to all the kids Christmas morning, so he plans to also break out his Santa suit. And Uncle Seth (who we lovingly call “Peanut”) is looking forward to sharing his love of the outdoors, hiking, and snowboarding.

The child that comes into our family will be welcomed, loved, and frankly, pretty busy. I’ve been so blessed to have siblings who have also been best friends throughout my life and I am excited to create a family where a new child and Chase would have the same bond.
